Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services
Referred to as DBHDS, Virginia's public mental health, developmental disability and substance abuse services system is comprised of 16 state facilities and 40 locally-run Community Services Boards (CSBs)/Behavioral Health Authorities(BHAs). The CSB/BHAs and facilities serve children and adults who have or who are at risk of mental illness, serious emotional disturbance, developmental disabilities, or substance use disorders. The state office is responsible for internal support functions.

Mental Health Evaluation
Programs that provide screening, diagnostic and treatment planning services for people who are experiencing acute or chronic psychiatric problems. Included is a continuum of assessment services ranging from a comprehensive psychiatric or psychological evaluation to the administration of one or a combination of psychological tests to examine a particular personality variable. Services may be provided in a variety of settings including hospitals and community-based clinics.
