Who We Are

The Alexandria Health Department’s mission is to advance Healthy People, Healthier Communities. They provide essential public health services to Alexandrians and others who work and play here. They operate public health specialty clinics; help communities to prepare for, respond to and recover from public health emergencies; assess food safety at restaurants and permitted facilities; investigate communicable diseases and offer guidance to prevent the spread of disease; and advance community wellness.

The Health Department may require information regarding your family size and income. Eligibility for services and fees, if any, are determined from this information.  Fees are based on a sliding scale. Some services are free and many services require Alexandria residency.
